Vanilla Ice

September 27, 2010

Does the name Vanilla Ice bring back memories of a time filled with fluorescent clothing, large hoop earrings, peg legged stone washed jeans, and of course big, big bangs?  Well, don’t be fooled into thinking that Vanilla Ice is stuck in the 90′s.  Yes, he is back and but with his come back he is not singing rap…Vanilla has a cool new sound.  I think Vanilla is a wonderful performer…but what is he like backstage?  Even cooler.  Yep, he is one down to earth guy who puts everyone around him at ease.  Enjoy the photos and the slideshow, but don’t fooled into thinking that “Ice, Ice Baby” is the only song Ice will be known for.  Check out his new stuff here.

Here is a video from the night I shot Vanilla Ice performing. (You can see me in the bottom right hand corner of the frame photographing the show!)

Who is ready for a killer September PUG? Nationally known photographer Ali Hohn, from Minnesota, will be speaking to us on how to find your niche and develop your style. Ali is best known for her outstanding workshop series called, “Rock that Off Camera Flash” in which she travels all over the U.S. teaching. Check out Ali’s work here.

We will be meeting on Wednesday September 22nd at 6 p.m. at Settebello Pizzeria in downtown Salt Lake City.

Please RSVP to me at andrea@andreahanksphotography.com. You do NOT need to be a Pictage member, and you MAY invite other photographers, I just need to have a final count by the 21st of September. If you RSVP, please come! You will NOT want to miss this.

Cheers!

Third Eye Blind

September 13, 2010

Third Eye Blind is another group I was able to cover at Candlelight Serenade. I am sure most of you will recognize them as a really popular group in the 90′s.  Also, Abraham Millet, the bass player for the band is really cool! Once again, thanks to Michael Mangum, the director of photography for the event, for asking me to be the backstage photographer with an all access pass for the day.  Enjoy the slideshow!

Kosha Dillz

June 18, 2010

I would like to introduce a great friend of mine who is quickly becoming a very well know hip hop artist…he is going on tour with Snoop Dogg this summer! His stage name is Kosha Dillz, but his real name is Rami. I am not sure which is bigger, his talent or his heart. He is willing to help anyone, including 3 helpless kitties. Kosha is Jewish and chooses to only eat Kosha brand meats. One of the things that can be difficult as an artist of any type, is finding people to believe in you and what you can offer the world. A lot of people who do really well in show biz have agents or record companies promoting them. Kosha has done all of it by himself with the support of friends and family. If you are into hip hop, I suggest you check him out. He is FRESH! I have photographed two of his shows as well as one amazing portrait session at Saltair. Jon Woodbury was kind enough to come along and assist as well as  shoot with me-the results are awesome. To check out more of Kosha go here. To see Jon’s photos from the shoot go here. I am about ready to tell you the coolest part about this post…are you ready?  REALLY?  You really have to watch the slideshow because the song in the slideshow is one that Kosha wrote just for ME! I LOVE IT. Enjoy!

In January I had the awesome privilege of shooting many different events at The Sundance Film Festival in Park City. I was shooting for Utah Styleliste Magazine and the experience was amazing.  I have been slammed since November of last year (it is a good thing) and I have really fallen behind on my blog posts, so in an attempt to bring you up to speed on my projects  I have posted some of the highlights from the film festival.  If you would like to see more of my work, check out my Facebook Page_DSC0370-2 copy_DSC0350 copy_DSC0337 copy_DSC0314 copy_DSC0310 copy_DSC0300 copy_DSC0289-2 copy_DSC0283 copy_DSC1547 copy_DSC1187 copy_DSC1110 copy_DSC1072h copy_DSC0967 copy_DSC1976 copy_DSC1814 copy_DSC0385 copy_DSC2007 copy_DSC0937o copy_DSC0386-2 copy_DSC0399 copy_DSC0402 copy_DSC0446 copy_DSC0578 copy_DSC0646 copy_DSC0189 copy_DSC0902 copy_DSC0765-2 copy_DSC0744-2 copy_DSC0740 copy_DSC0266 copy_DSC0260 copy_DSC0201 copy_DSC0233 copy_DSC0319 copy_DSC0174 copyge-910″ />

2 AM Club

March 30, 2010

It has been a while since I have posted anything. It is not because I don’t have any work to post, nay it is quite the contrary. I have been running like crazy since January. I just wanted to share some exciting news here on the blog with a promise that there is a whole lot more to come!

I was able to shoot photos of 2 AM Club at The Sundance Film Festival while on assignment for Utah Styleliste Magazine. I had about 10 minutes backstage to take their pictures, and I am pleased to announce that RCA (their record label) has purchased all of the photos! These boys are super talented, educated and extremely un-jaded. We were able to hang out with them the next night and had a great time because they were so down to earth. I think they are going to be huge. Their first album is slated to be released in the spring. Check out the RCA homepage and 2 AM Club is the first artist listed.  To see more of my photos of 2 Am Club, check out my Facebook Page.

I did a portrait session of this adorable family last year and then had the awesome privilege to photograph them again this year. I wanted to post this session today because the baby bump you see in the pictures is now gone. Yes…the little one arrived a few days ago. Congratulations!

What do you get when you have two photographers, 3 lights, one camera, 12 degree weather, a darling family and TEN MINUTES? An impromptu photo session in-between jobs and a few cute pictures to send out to family for Christmas cards. Wow….it is amazing that anything turned out! I have to give Jon and Lori props though, because they are also in the photo biz so they were great at posing on their own while I got the attention of little missy! To see behind the scenes at this shoot watch this clip.
